About Easy Crossword Solver

Easy Crossword Solver is a free helper for American crossword puzzles, built for people who want large, clear print and no clutter. Type a clue the way it appears in your newspaper or puzzle book, and the solver lists answers that fit your squares.

Where the answers come from

Every clue page starts from a definition in the Open English WordNet, a free dictionary of English made by linguists and released under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 license. The words that share a definition are its answers. One-word clues also use the Moby Thesaurus (public domain), and the letter search uses the ENABLE word list (public domain).

Because the answers come from dictionary meanings, the site never copies answers from newspapers or puzzle publishers. Answers use American spelling.

How we check the answers

Before every update an automatic test solves a set of well-known clues and fails the update if a known answer is missing, so a mistake never reaches the site.
